NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is working with fleets to develop an employee notification system that would allow a fleet to download an applicant’s complete driving record before hiring, an FMCSA researcher said last week.
Jeff Secrist, of the agency’s Office of Research and Technology, spoke at the Technology & Maintenance Council meeting here.
He said 10 states have systems from which trucking companies can download driving records.
“We are looking into the feasibility of a nationwide ENS that will allow any employer to see the driving record of any applicant in all 50 states,” Secrist said.
“We’re still in phase one of this study, to determine whether the idea is feasible and cost-effective.”
He did not give a target date for the implementation.
