Welcome to the forum. I suggest reading thru the Hotshot Startup section here and then start asking questions.

We are always glad to help out a newbie.

If you have not bought any equipment, look at what type of hauling you would like to do. Cars, Flatbed Freight, Trailers/RV's, ect....

Look at the potential Customer base, and then invest in your equipment. Finding some direct customers would help, because I think the broker freight would be on the lean side in ND.

What are you thinking of doing?

That is the best niche to get into. They pay good for hotshot loads.

Check around for the hotshot companies that are up there now and see if you can sign on with them. Run with them under their authority and see if that is what you want to do and then get your own authority.

One of the problems of trying to run under your own authority in the oilfield business is having access to the loads. If you can make contacts and get them to contact you direct you could do it. Problem is that several hotshot companies get in there and get the business and if they are dependable they will get the call because they have access to several trucks whereas they call you and you are on a run and can't get there right now you loose that load and the confidence of the shipper.

You can do well in the oilfield hotshot even working for the other guy. You will have to be tagged for over 30K most likely and have a 40 ft flat bed unless you want to do just flatbed truck work. They do well also.

The oilfield business is an animal all it's own.

I would agree with TC on this. One truck true HOT SHOT work is hard to do and keep the customer happy. Unless you dedicate yourslef to just one customer with enough business to keep you busy. Working for a Hot Shot company might be the way to go. If the OIL Business is going well there then there will be Hot Shot companies looking for trucks. Read the lease over well.
