Just so you guys know, things are real slow right now. When I started in 05 I could be real picky on loads. Things have gotten real tight now, and rates have fallen badly. Other vetran haulers are saying the same thing. Brokered loads are Covered real fast within minutes of posting. One of the load boards shows the number of views a load gets, many show 10-30 views and if you don't call before the number hits 5 or less it is already booked.
Many cars are paying on average .40 - .55 per mile, with DHing to fill a 3 car wedge you would be lucky to get 1.00 - 1.25 PM right now.
Many LTL's are paying .50 to .75 PM, hardly any in the 1.00 - 1.25 PM category. And those go real fast. Lots of competition for those 12' and 4k weight or less LTL's these days. Not enough freight for the amount of trucks.
My best broker made $50 bucks on just one load all week, this week, he has been slow for a month.
Really think hard about where you are going to find freight. Relying on 100% for brokered freight will kill you in todays market. Low rates and shrinking volume is the state of the trucking market today.
I hate to be pessimistic, but things have been getting worse all year, and in the last month it has gotten much worse.
Really think about where you are going to get good loads, and will you be paid, more slow and no pay out there these days too.
