I was calling about a specific load this afternoon and had to make several more phone calls to find dimensions/weights etc. Anyway was talking directly to the sales office & as they were giving me the spec's for this load that was brokered out, they said they needed trucks and people in certain area's that would or could be available to them. Their very next question was "Do you go to Canada?"

I told them I wasn't opposed to it during their three days of summer in July but aside from that....lol Actually I told them I really hadn't looked into it, while I had seen a few loads going in, I never looked for things coming back and did not know the particulars about it. The last time I was up there was on a company trip to Red Lake that was pre 9/11 and am sure many things have changed since then.

Is anyone currently running up & around there? What is needed to pass the border security checks (both ways) and what is needed to travel around? What are the differences to be aware of?

I towed horse trailers into almost every province up there.

Crossing the border for yourself is not the big deal. You will need a passport sometime this year unless it is postponed. The last time I went in was in early 07 and it was still picture ID to go in but a birth certificate and picture ID to get back plus $5.00. It was suppose to change to a requirement for passport going both directions. I think it postponed to later this year so check with imigration or some truckers that go there often.

Loads had to processed thru a Canadian broker to get into Canada and it needs to be one that is located at the crossing where you are going to cross the border. They have to know you are coming or you will have a hell of time getting in.

Again talk to someone who does it because it can get to be a hassle without the right stuff.

Our broker set everything up and all I had to do was pull in at the entry point and give them my paperwork WITH A BARCODE (need extra copies also) and they checked the computer, checked my ID and asked about weapons, liquor, etc. and I was on my way.

If you want the number to the broker I used I suspect they might fill you in on it. Let me know.

I have to leave early in the morning for the opposite direction...Florida, but I do appreciate the info & will ask about that broker when I get back. Right now trying to figure how to protect the runners on a Pontoon boat that may be placed right on my deck...Thinking I need to find some carpet strips or something to protect the aluminum....Going to be interesting.

Recently I had a load that was going to Edmonton, that I was considering. There was nothing up there to bring back for a Hotshot, not even a car. I told the guy that I would need to bill him for 1000 DH miles plus the 2k loaded miles. He choked on that. Look real close at what your possible return loads. Their was some full loads for Class 8's but not many and the rates stunk 1.25-.75 for 40k weight.

Is that quote in Canadian or US dollars? You need to see what the exchange rate is.

I think, I am not sure, but I think that you can run into Canada to drop, but you need Canadian Authority to pick anything up coming back to the states.

That would be in violation of NFTA. That was the whole purpose of NFTA was to allow loads both ways. I don't think that applied in Mexico though.

I think you might need CANNADIAN authority and don't forget about your Insurance. Thats what a Broker with CANNADA loads told me.
