Wyoming Diesel Shortages Prompt Fuel Rationing

Diesel shortages have prompted some filling stations in Wyoming to ration fuel, the Associated Press reported Monday.
At some locations, fill ups are limited to 50 to 75 gallons, AP said.
Some station owners believe the shortage stems from the new ultra-low-sulfur diesel requirements, which mandate that 80% of highway diesel fuel produced after June 1 and sold after Oct. 15 contain no more than 15 parts per million of sulfur.
To help ease the shortage, Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal (D) has called for relaxed hours regulations for fuel-hauling truck drivers, AP reported.
In early August, diesel scarcity in Colorado prompted filling stations in that state to enact similar fuel rationing measures.
In response, Colorado officials temporarily suspended limits on the number of hours that drivers hauling fuel are allowed to work.
