BACKING UP YOUR DDL (Logbook)

OK, a lot of you guys are using DDL I thought you might like to know how to back it up and do updates. I've been using it since I first came out, and for the price of $50.00,(lite ver.) you can't beat it.

It is very easy to update DDL:

1. Back up your Drivers Folder to an external device, make sure you have your DDL ID number Printed and Saved. Needed if the software goes back to trial mode.
A. Open windows explorer
B. Go to your C: drive
C. Open Program Files
D. Look for, and OPEN DDL
E. Locate the folder that you named (i.e. your name)
F. Right click it and slect copy or "CTL C".
G. Then, select the driver or backup disk, USB thumb drive etc.
H. Click on that drive and go "CTL V" or paste to copy your backup.

Do this about once a week, or at least once a month.

To update your DDL:

1. Close DDL down
2. Go to the download page, Click on the update you need Full or Lite. Not both as the software will go back to zero trial days.
3. Install the update, DDL should then restart. Check the version number on the top title bar should match, or be greater than the version number on the download page. i.e. 3.4.3.09 is good if you had 3.4.3.10 then this is better. If you still show 3.4.3.08 then the download and update did not work. Re-do steps 2-4
4. Download and install any, and all print modules you have installed.

DDL is work every penny you would spend for it. Great software. It will keep you from exceeding you time if you pay attention to it. It calculates everything for you and tells you the time to shutdown to prevent exceeding the 11 hrs driving and the 14 hr duty day. It also tracks the hrs for the 7 or 8 day duty cycle and will drop the hours as appropriate. It is a great way to keep the DOT off your back.

Sometimes DOT won't even check your logs if you are doing them on a computer even though you have to print copies to present to them. When the see the printed copies they usually won't even check them.

How to back up with a Mac:

install drive into USB port, mac recognizes it and creates temporary icon on screen (I prefer the 2gig flash drive sticks)

double click & drag your DDL file to the drive icon.

When the drive quits flashing, approx 3 seconds, you're done. click drive icon & select eject.

Works the same for all programs & folders. Very Happy
