Two Health Regions in Alberta, Aspen Regional Health (ARH), and East Central Health Region (ECH) have procured a Mobile MRI System, in a standard-sized 48 foot trailer unit (see Appendix 1), which will visit in-region referral centers on a rotational basis, as a preferred means of establishing and providing in-region access to MRI services.
ARH and ECH have formed a Joint Venture Entity (JVE).
The goals and objectives in requesting transport proposals are as follows:
• To select a trucking firm and transport provider with demonstrated experience, capabilities and expertise to meet the required performance and quality standards. In other words, to hire tractor and driver transport services to relocate the MRI trailer every weekend from site to site in the rotation.

Description of Services:

The Mobile MRI Service will be provided at five rural Health Centres. Locations and regions included and involved are as follows:
1. Camrose St. Mary’s Hospital East Central Health
2. Lloydminster Lloydminster Hospital East Central Health /
Prairie North HR (Sask)
3. Cold Lake Cold Lake Healthcare Centre Aspen Regional Health
4. Westlock Westlock Healthcare Centre Aspen Regional Health
5. Hinton Hinton Healthcare Centre Aspen Regional Health

The schedule of services is based on the assumption that the Mobile MRI unit will be located at each site for four (4) consecutive days (Monday – Thursday). Relocation to the next site in the rotation will occur either Friday or over the weekend. The system must be ready for use at the new location at 07:00 hours the following Monday morning. Weekends will be considered system downtime for relocation.
Arrangements will be made for preventive maintenance on the Magnet, as well as the specialty trailer unit, on designated weekends that the system is passing through or near the Edmonton area.
The proposed schedule for the locations is included in Appendix 2.
The siting of the trailer unit will be adjacent or near to each of the five existing facilities. In some cases there may be the provision of a covered walkway and ramp between the health centre and the trailer. There will be a specific docking pad at each site.
Relocation of the Mobile MRI unit (from site to site) will be handled by a trucking firm on a contracted basis. The successful trucking contractor will be selected by the Joint Venture Entity, following an industry standard.
