interstate AND intrastate?NEdually
Mar 21, 06 - 3:19 PM interstate AND intrastate?
According to OOIDA, even If I have interstate authority, if I get a load in my home state and deliver it in my home state I need to get Intrastate authority. I can see this if it's many runs and a contract but will the dot write me for one here and there...I'm guessing yes. So if it's another big $$$ maybe I should just not take in state work?

Pickup and deliver totally within your state is intrastate and you have to have state DOT#. Just another decision you must make. In the northeast you probably can do without it but in TX there are many loads within the state. It has something to do with the size and number of large cities and oil wells, etc.

Ok as far as I know there is no intrastate authority as that would be state business. But ooida is right about in state loads. Texas is the only one that ever gave us a problem, they find out when they audit your logs. Thhe answer is a seperate TX dot. I believe that they charge $200 and require that you file your insurance. You will need this number to buy oversize permits in Tx so it's worth it to have.

There are actually several states that have state DOT numbers. I see them on the side of trucks all the time. The issue is about your home state. If your home state is NY and you pickup a load in GA and deliver in GA you are not required to have a GA DOT because your business is located in NY.
