Since I started after the 34 hr restart was implemented I am not sure I understand the old system. It seems that you work until you get 70 hrs and then you are down until you can add back in the hours from day 1 or the 8 day cycle.
Is that how you see it?

The Old SystemLets see if I remember.
70 hrs in 8 days.
10 hrs drive, max 11 hrs combined with on duty not driving status.
8 hrs off duty or sleeper berth
CAN combine offduty and sleeper to get 8 hrs. as long as there is no less than 2 hrs.straight in berth.
Can only split sleeper berth 2 times to get 8 hrs. neither less than 2 hrs.
Off Duty not Driving may be logged at meal breaks or anytime you are relieved of duties. Does NOT count against your hours.
Can run the 5 on and 5 off with the old system.
72 hour reset.
Please correct this if I have it wrong. I have thrown out all my old FMCSA
books. I had no reference.
A clever person can run forever on the old system.

I had the same impression from what little I knew about it. Seems to me that is unsafe compared to the new system. To much politicing going on.
