Howdy all! I am trying to get started into hotshot trucking. I have been approved tp purchase a new 1 ton dually. I am trying to find a carrier to lease onto.I have been in touch with 3 companies in northern Indiana. They say that they won't be taking on any new drivers untill early spring. I really don't want to wait that long. If any of you can help me find a carrier, I would appreciate it very much.
I have over 32 years experience driving 18 wheelers in all 48 states and Canada.
I had an accident in 1998 and was disabled. My dr. has finally released me to return to driving. I have been interestsed in hotshots for several years. I live in Alabama and will run just about anywhere.
Thanks for letting me join your group. I hope to hear from y'all soon.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you have your own operating authority and a trailer? What is it that you are wanting to do?

There are several options available.

I am trying to find a company to lease on a hotshot truck.
I have been approved to purchase a 1 ton truck and I want to get into the "hotshot" business. I have over 32 years experience driving 18 wheelers. I dont know if I want to get my own authority or lease on with someone. Please help me if you can. Thank you

You are going to need a trailer if you are going to haul "hotshot" or better said, LTL freight. I don't of anyone who provides the trailers, hence my question about what you want to do.

I believe once you research this business you will want to get your own authority. There are some who do OK leasing on with a company. All of the companies that I know of that lease trucks want a 40 ft tandem axle dually trailer, which are rated around 18-24K. They also require that you register for 34-36K. You will also need IFTA registration/sticker, etc. Some may provide the IFTA.

You might check these folks. No one knows anything about them. I think they are new. Use caution.

The LTL business is not much different from the big truck business. Just the size of the truck and load and most of us don't have sleepers so no sleeper berth time can be logged. Everything else is the same including all the scale stops and inspections. The DOT is stopping the LTL freight haulers (hotshot) in a lot of states recently. Including us trailer transporters.

If you are under 26,000 lbs the IFTA does not apply and a cdl is not required but all the other rules apply as well.

Did you get the email I sent to you?
