Welcome to the board. You will also find good information on another board that a lot of us use. www.hotshothauling.com. As a former law enforcement officer from AR many, many yeras back. If you have the will and desire, you can make it in the hot shot business.
However, I would suggest that you get at the least a good low milage one ton dually, diesel much preferred. I went through two fords and then a dodge, which I still have. But moved up to a medium size and got all the legal permits and license.
It took a few years and some hard work, but it's paying off. You will need to decide wether or not you want to stay below 26K or go over it. Different set of rules for each, yet they intertwine with each to some extent.
By reading and researching both this forum and the other one, you will get most of your questions answered. I would suggest no less than a thirty or thirty-five foot trailer. A forty foot would be better. You can find used ones for a good price if you look.
