| I'm just getting into the Hotshot business and I've signed up with a transport company here in Texas. The problem is I'm not getting anywhere near the runs I need to keep this business going. I'm driving a diesel F250 with a long bed but don't yet have a trailer, so all my loads are pickup loads. I want to increase my runs, but being tied to a transport company I wonder if I'm prevented from taking other loads. Any suggestions on how I can get this business going more productively? |

| Hey Digger the best advice I can offer you is to trade the truck in on a late model dually and get a gooseneck trailer. I can't see how you can make it with just a 3/4 pickup and no trailer? In my oppinion being leased to a company is the wrong way to go also. You'll be giving to much of your profit away. I load several trucks everyday and none of them are leased Owner Operators, there all Independent. Being Independent allows you to step away if your not making it where your at. | I'm beginning to seriously appreciate that advise. Being very new at this I wanted to get started on the right foot and not make a huge investment when I didn't know the potential. Now I'm beginning to visualize the potential, but I'm not getting enough runs to satisfy the needs. I finally got two runs yesterday, but that has been after a week with nothing. I can understand the slow times, but I expect a run at least every other day, if not every day. I need to know how to charge for a load and secure a few good contacts, then I'll work on making the move. Thanks for your advice. |

Since you live in Victoria you should try Cheetah located in Alvin. They use a lot of pickups. My brother drives his 1500 pickup. They do a lot of Houston and TX, LA runs.
Otherwise what Gary said is true. Get a dually and trailer after you have the money to pay for startup costs and have operating funds. |

Sounds like a good place to try. Wonder if they run loads out of Victoria? I'll contact them for some info. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Hey digger how are things going? Have you had any luck with your start up. I started with a 3/4 ton and and a 14k trailer.
