I am considering getting into the hotshot business. All I have to start out with so far is a regular size Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 liter with auto transmission and desire. What I would like to do is keep my current job until I can get established well enough to upgrade and go full time. I am still researching and do not plan on flying by the seat of my pants just to go belly up from lack of info. I do not have any experience but I am willing to work hard and learn what there is to learn.
I am just peeing in the wind considering using my 2002 Dodge or is it a feesible idea. I also have some money in my retirement account that I could use to purchase a small trailer maybe 16' or so. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

Welcome to the board. You will also find good information on another board that a lot of us use. www.hotshothauling.com. As a former law enforcement officer from AR many, many yeras back. If you have the will and desire, you can make it in the hot shot business.
However, I would suggest that you get at the least a good low milage one ton dually, diesel much preferred. I went through two fords and then a dodge, which I still have. But moved up to a medium size and got all the legal permits and license.
It took a few years and some hard work, but it's paying off. You will need to decide wether or not you want to stay below 26K or go over it. Different set of rules for each, yet they intertwine with each to some extent.
By reading and researching both this forum and the other one, you will get most of your questions answered. I would suggest no less than a thirty or thirty-five foot trailer. A forty foot would be better. You can find used ones for a good price if you look.
Good luck.
