I wanted to ask you fine people what internet load boards you subscribe to. I am thinking about getting an air card for my laptop so that I could search for backhauls when I was out on the road, but I don't want to pay $35.00 a month for a board that doesn't do me any good.
Thank You

Truckstop.com , $35.00 per month I've used them for 7-8 years now and really enjoyed using this board. But I just closed my brokerage account with them. I'm also considering closing my trucking co account. The freight rates have been running way to cheap for me to load my trucks off of it for the last 2 years. And they charge for every little option they offer. I feel I'm just throwing my money away with this one anymore.
getloaded.com is around $35.00 per month, I use it for posting freight and may start using them for searching for freight. If your going to use a load board that charges I'd say use this one.
truckersedge.com I've tried them a few times over the years and did'nt really care for it. Besides when I closed my account with them one time they kept charging my credit card long after I closed my account. They refunded my money when I called them on it.
centraldispatch.com for vehicles loads is around $117.00 every 3 months. Alittle to pricy for what they have on there.
thefreightboard.com is free for truckers and brokers. I like this one.
clickloads.com is free for truckers and brokers. this is another good one. A hand can make lots of connections on this board. And there opening a new free load board called partialloads.com I think this will be the hot ticket for hot shot Owner Operators.
findloads.com is free for truckers and brokers. this ones ok. I havent used them latley though.
I'd say utilize all the free ones you can right now. It seems like most of the freight's not paying enough to be going out of pocket on load boards. Most of my work is comming in by phone these days. In this business you have to be talking to people everyday and making new connection to really stay busy. I'm not making anyu money using the load boards other than posting my freight. I'm sure someone on here will know of a few more free ones. I think you'll see alot more brokers and truckers utilizing the free ones to save some money.
When it comes to that PC card, Good Luck! I have a verizon card and it sucks for reception. that little map they give you for the service area is bull! I talked to another driver today and he has one from someone else and he can't get any reception either, I think he said his was from singular?. The problem with these cards is you have to sign atleast a 1 year contract. Now I'm paying $89.00 a month for something that doesn't work very well. If your staying in motels on the road most of them offer high speed internet and thats what I'm using. Every truck stop has internet connections also. Find a cheap phone card and use them. Hope all this helps. Good Luck, Gary.
Anyone else on here using PC cards for the laptops? Tell us which ones are working and which ones aren't.
Verizons Not!

Check out http://www.uship.com?r-1498 too. No monthly fees, no sign up fees, free to check out all the freight. Plus, if you sign up you get a free listing in their directory. Anyway can go through the directory and ask you to haul a load for them.

Thanks for the info Gary. I have not used Uship yet but it appears that it takes to long to get your bid accepted and then work out the details. My customers call and I have to be there within the hour in most cases to get loaded and go to my destination. So I don't have time to send bids wait for the person to accept the bid then work out the details over the Internet. If you could find some way for us to call the person to work out the details (I understand Uship has to make money)It might work for me.
Thanks
Gordon

I was wondering. Since uShip takes a percentage of the load revenue and you contract the load threw their site. Are they falling under the Freight Broker catagory?

Thanks. I had a phone call from an entity, asking questions, about this site, address etc. I asked them where they got my phone number,as I am unlisted for the last twenty-five years, ans. safesys..
I find it interesting though that such a fast growing Company, does not have a physical address. I did find thier agent of servic @ http://ecpa.coa.state.tx.us/coa/index.html (look it up,when you have time interesting info).
As for the Broker Authority, as for the Claim of just being a Marketplace, they take a % , the phone book you pick up ( thier analogy) does not, and the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION-FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFTEY ADMINISTRATION- REGULATIONS handbook is pretty clear on this subject. I thought I was Legal until I lay in bed recuperating from Cancer Surgery and decided to read the Green Book, Boy did my eyes open up.
I did find out that these sites ARE being monitered as they are found, by the big boys (FEDS) and the States for compliance, so its only a matter of time.
My opinion is its Money diving this Investigation, and its money keeping it from getting it done. go figure.
Thanks again Mike Rodriguez (MRT)

Actually Mike, it's not uncommon to have just a PO Box these days. There are so many home based businesses esp with the advent of the internet, that most people don't want to give out there home address to the public.
When I ran my internet service, I ran it from my home. I had everything any ISP providor had, looked just like any other ISP and it was from my house. I had a PO cause I didn't want some nut showing up on my door step.
Uship very like is out of the owners home, has his internet connection through Time Warner Cable and has a bunch of servers in his closet.

Thanks for the insight, I to had a P.O.Box when I had my Corp. But for all my filings and Agent of Service,I had to give a Pyhsical address, a P.O. Box was not acceptable, I must admit that this was just the Law in California.
Thanks again Mike R.

Hi guys,
I just wanted to give a little more complete information on uShip, and, if anyone ever has questions and wants to talk to someone directly, you can always call me at 860 670 3979 (my name is EJ Lawless).
If anyone wants to know more information about uShip, there is an about section http://www.uship.com/about.aspx. It has articles and press releases for the past two years. The articles go over the history of uShip, who started it, why, and future goals.
We do have an officep; if anyone is in Austin I would be more than happy to try and arrange a little tour.
We are not brokers because we do not resell shipping services. Normally a shipping customer contacts a broker, purchases the shipping service from the broker, and then the broker purchases the actual shipping service from a carrier of his choice. In the uShip model, the shipping customer directly contacts the carrier and choose the carrier he wants - just like the phone book. A customer goes to the phone book, reads over the ads, gets quotes and chooses a carrier.
Again, if anyone has any questions, wants to come down to meet with some uShip people, just let me know, I am here to help anyone out.
Thanks,
EJ Lawless

E.J.
I notice you still did not give us your exact true address.
Now If you Truly wanted to settle all of this controversy about Uship "being a Marketplace" not a "Broker" Just go to the FMCSA and get a Letter stating " YOU don't need a Lic. Bond etc", and Post it, and all of us nay sayers, could just crawl under our rocks and eat crow.!!!!!!!!
Again, All I'm hearing is talk. Uship takes 7.9% off the Top. and if I don't get paid for the Load you say, sue the shipper!!!!!!!. I have talked to the FMCSA and I agree with them, as they control this industry. You can get away without Legal Authority the same way, you can get away with being out of Compliance ( Texas Verbage) with the Tax Code, But sooner or later it catches up with you.
E.J. Opinion's are like "a..holes, we all have them, and they all stink". BUT Legal Ruleings are usually always Final and binding.
I'll just sit back and wait to see which one you produce and publish.
Think I'll take a Nap, while I'm waiting. Mike Rodriguez MRT
